Since the first summer in 1925, Camp Westminster has impacted the lives of countless children, youth, families and individuals. Many of you carry your own memories of summers at Camp Westminster and continue to think fondly of your time spent on Higgins Lake. This June we will enter into the 90th summer of changing lives at Camp Westminster. We want to invite you to be a part of this historical summer: share your Camp Westminster memories with your family during Family Camp; give your children or grandchildren the opportunity to make their own CampWestminster friends and memories by registering them for summer camp; or reconnect with alumni, friends and family during the 90th Anniversary Celebration.
In any capacity, we sincerely hope your path leads you back to Camp Westminster this summer. Let’s celebrate Camp Westminster’s “90 Tried & True.”
The Potter and The Clay
Handmade Pottery in Honor of 90 Tried & True
We are often overwhelmed by the number of Camp Westminster alumni and friends who graciously share their time and talents with the camp community. One such talented alumna is Sue Kolb who has been working hard to handmake ceramic mugs and bowls in honor of Camp Westminster’s 90th anniversary. Featured here are pictures of her process. You can view more of Sue’s work at her studio’s website, www.redpinepotteryandtwigs.com. Each person who comes to the 90th anniversary celebration in July will receive one of these beautiful (and functional!) pieces of art. Thanks, Sue!
Kirtland’s Warbler Festival at Camp Westminster
May 8-9, 2015
Did you know Michigan’s northern pine forests are home to the last remaining Kirtland’s Warblers?
Due to development and habitat loss, the Kirtland’s Warbler has been pushed to near extinction. With a lot of help in recent years, the Kirtland’s Warbler has made a remarkable comeback and we want you to be a part of it!
During the Kirtland’s Warbler Festival this May at Camp Westminster we will be learning about this unique bird and helping contribute to the preservation of this rarest of warblers. In partnership with Huron Pines, Camp Westminster will be helping plant acres of new jack pine forest on Saturday, May 9. Learn about what has been done to save this unique bird during a tour of the current Jack Pine forests. Ask questions like, “Why are the Jack Pine trees replanted after they are five feet tall?” “How does the cowbird effect the Kirtland’s Warbler?” or “Are forest fires good or bad for the survival of the Kirtland’s Warbler?” to experts in the field. Then retire to a tasty dinner and a soft bed in the newly opened Worthington Lodge at Camp Westminster on Higgins Lake
Let’s work together to support one of God’s more delicate creatures: the Kirtland’s Warbler.
Click here to register now. $65 for Adults, $35 for Student, and $200 max per family.
Every day, more and more people are etching their legacy and touching the future. Last month we started our brick patio project and we are currently halfway towards meeting our goal. Campers, alumni, parents, and staff have been approaching us with their brick message that will be placed on our brick patio which is set to be unveiled during the 90th Celebration Weekend.
The proceeds from this project will be used to help fund the restoration of the Odell Lodge Dining Hall, which is desperately in need of a kitchen upgrade. Now is the time to return your loyalty and affection and to acknowledge the role Camp Westminster has played in your life. The deadline for submitting your brick design is April 30th. Can we count on you to respond? Will you give to this important cause?
Visit www.campwestminster.donationbricks.com to submit your order, or call (313) 341-8969 for more information.
