According to The Presbyterian Panel, the most common setting for a singular spiritual growth experience is a week of camp, followed by a retreat. God has often chosen to use retreats, revivals, pilgrimages and even the “wilderness” to inspire, call, instruct, and/or renew people for service.
Westminster on Higgins Lake offers a series of programmed retreats and events every year. You provide the youth and chaperones, we provide the program, leadership, and music! Many youth leaders love knowing they can take their kids away for a retreat experience without having to do all of the planning. Westminster retreats are also an excellent opportunity for your youth to connect with youth from other areas. In addition to the program, each retreat also includes seasonally appropriate activities like the high ropes and zip line, ice skating on Higgins Lake and much more! These retreats are perfect for small youth groups looking for BIG programs and BIG fun!
Kirtland’s Warbler Festival
Truly a unique bird, the Kirtland’s Warblers is a bird that Darwin would marvel at. It nests only in the Jack Pine forest of Northern Michigan for a few months before migrating down to the Bahamas. However, this bird requires a very specific habitat: it only nests under young Jack Pine saplings.
So come to Westminster on Higgins Lake to see this endangered petite bird in some of its last remaining habitats. Participate in the efforts to create the proper habitat for the Kirtland’s Warbler as we plant new Jack Pine trees. Tour the great north of Michigan and learn about God’s intricate creation and what we are doing to preserve it.
Join the Westminster Fall Color Canoe Trip down Northern Michigan’s Au Sable River next October. Campers and adults alike for years have been traveling down the winding waters of the peaceful Au Sable River. In the season of work and business, set aside some time to notice and savor the changing of the colors in Michigan. After a night of Michigan folklore and fireside storytelling, canoers will set out mid-morning to capture the full range of scarlet and golden leaves. Lunch will be eaten amidst the fall colors along the banks of the river. Afterward, the day will continue next door at Wellington Farms for a Pumpkin Chunkin’ extravaganza. A scenic hayride with cider and doughnuts will follow. Dinner will be served in the new Venman Hall in the newly renovated Worthington Lodge. Relax after dinner by the fire to continue the stories and laughter.
